Living in the country requires an active lifestyle. It involves activities like doing daily chores, preparing firewood for winter heating, feeding animals including pets and livestock, tending the garden, or securing fences, etc. For me, the most attractive activities are fishing, hunting and hiking. I enjoy seeing what nature has to offer everyday through a simple walk down the little trail, or a relaxing drive along the country road with patches of green grass ornamented with wildlife sightings of birds, moose, bears, deer, etc.
Living the country life helps us appreciate some of the simpler things, things that make us feel good about ourselves and the world. It may be just a get together on a Saturday at the local farmers market, or a project or a problem that the community might pull together to help solve. I have participated in a few community projects, like dealing with out-of-control grass fires, a roof that collapsed from a large snow fall, or even helping a recent widow with fire wood for the winter. Sometimes I am surprised by how much benefit we receive from helping others and as for this community I can’t say enough.
I really enjoy living the country life. I know it’s not for everyone, but I know it’s for me.

Some nuclear families, however, may add one or more grandparents to come to live with them, that is three generations. This kind of family with grandparents, parents, and grandchildren is called an extended family. This family type was not very common during the later half of the twentieth century, but it's becoming more common now as an elderly grandparent moves in to live with a son or daughter. This is more possible now that American homes have become larger. What is interesting, however, is that after the grandchildren move out of the home and start their own families, this extended family shrinks back to a nuclear family, with just two generations again living together, a grandparent and parents, with the grandchildren coming only for occasional visits.
Now, the fatherless or motherless family is one kind of what we call a single-parent family. In the fatherless family it's just the mother and her children. As I said, this can be the result of the husband's death, of an unmarried mother, of a separation or divorce. There are also a growing number of motherless families--where the father raises the children, for any of the same reasons. A motherless family may also be fatherless, but still a family with one adult. This is becoming more common in the big cities where a grandmother will raise her daughter's children while the daughter goes elsewhere to work.
One other new kind of family is becoming increasingly more common. A single parent with one or more children will marry again. Perhaps the other parent is also a single parent. Together they will start what is called a blended family, which blends together or combines the children from two other families.

听力原文： In 1858, a British scientist named William Farr set out to study the "marital condition" of the people of France. He divided the adults into three categories: the "married", consisting of husbands and wives; the "unmarried", defined as the bachelors and spinsters who had never married; and finally the "widowed", those who had experienced the death of a spouse. (29)Using birth, death and marriage records, Farr analyzed the death rates of the three groups at various ages. The work, a groundbreaking study that helped establish the field of medical statistics, showed that much more unmarried people died from disease than the married. And the widowed, Farr found, lived worst of all.
Farr was among the first scholars suggesting that there is a health advantage to marriage. Married people, the data seemed to show, lived longer, healthier lives. "Marriage is a healthy estate," Farr concluded. "The single individual is more likely to be wrecked on his voyage than the lives joined together in marriage."
