Mountain climbers around the world dream about going up Mountain Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) . It is the highest mountain in the world. But many people who have climbed the mountain have left waste material that is harming the environment.
A team of Americans is planning the largest clean-up effort ever on Mountain Everest. They will make the risky trip up the mountain next month.
The team of eight Americans will be guided by more than twenty Sherpas of Nepal (尼泊尔夏尔巴人).Their goal is to remove all the trash they see. They will spend two months cleaning up the mountain by gathering oxygen bottles, fuel containers, batteries, drink cans, human waste and other kinds of trash. They are expected to remove at least three tons of trash in large bags.
Team leader Robert Hoffman is making his fourth trip up the mountain. He says he hopes to bring Everest to the condition it was in before the first successful climb fifty years ago. He says he hopes the effort will influence other people to clean up the environment closer home.
Human waste on Everest is a major concern. So the clean-up team will take along newly development equipment to collect and treat human waste. Over the years, the waste articles have polluted the mountain. In the warm season when the ice melts, the polluted water flows to Nepali villages below. The problem has gotten worse in recent years because climbing Everest has become more popular.
When those Americans are planning the trip up Mountain Everest, they are concerned about______.
A.the success in climbing up the mountain
B.the environment pollution of the mountain
C.the equipment for their trip to the mountain
D.the risks facing the mountain climbers
According to preliminary market surveys, there are 10,000 would-be space tourists willing to spend $1 million each to visit the final frontier. Space Adventures in Arlington have taken more than 130 deposits for a two-hour, $98,000 space tour tentatively set to occur by 2005. This may sound great, but there are a few hurdles: Putting a simple satellite into orbit--with no oxygen, lift: support or return trip necessary—already costs an astronomical $2,200/kg. And that doesn't include the cost of insuring rich and possibly litigious (爱打官司的) passengers. The entire group of entrepreneurs trying to comer the space- tourism market has between them "just enough money to blow up one rocket".
The U.S. space agency has plenty of money but zero interest in making space less expensive for the little guys. So the little guys are racing to do what the government has failed to do: design a reusable launch system that's inexpensive, safe and reliable. Kelly Space's prototype looks like a plane that has sprouted rocket engines. Rotary Rocket in California has a booster with rotors to make a helicopter-style. return to earth. The first passenger countdowns arc still years away, but bureaucrats at the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington arc already informally discussing flight regulations. After all, you can't be too prepared for a trip to that galaxy far, far away.
Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Take Vacations in Space
B.Building Hotels in Space
C.Flight Regulations in Space Travels
D.Cost of Space Traveling

The journey to the moon has been the first step towards future explorations in space. The distance between the moon and the Earth is very short indeed when compared with the distances between Earth and the other planets. Mars, the nearest planet to Earth is of miles away ! Traveling to the planets or travels between planets will be man’ s next aim. Such travels will be more difficult than the trip to the moon and certainly more exciting.
Recently, two American unmanned spacecraft, Vikings 1 and 2, landed on Mars in an attempt to discover whether that planet had any life on it. So far the presence of life on Mars has neither been proved nor ruled out. Russian space-probes have discovered that the surface of Venus is so hot that it is almost certain that there is no life there. Also the atmosphere of Venus is extremely, dense and the pressure is nearly a hundred times greater than the pressure of the Earth’s atmosphere.
Scientists believe that in the future, space stations can be built in space. These stations can act as stop-over points in space. Spacecraft can refuel at these stations and get their supply of air, food and water.
Spaceships of the future will be bigger and faster. They will be able to carry passengers for trips to the moon or planets.
Man may in the future find planets which have the same conditions as those we have on Earth, and make them his home. However such a possibility is still in the distant future. At the same time, Man should realize that the Earth will be his only home for a long time and begin to value and care for it.
Which of the following statements is true?
A.Recently, two American astronauts have landed on Mars.
B.The surface of Mars is very hot.
C.The journey to the moon started the future exploration in space.
D.There is life in Venus.
No Jetlag(时差反应)Anymore
Most people who travel long distances complain of jetlag(时差反应). Jetlag makes business travelers less productive(多产的,有成效的)and more prone 1 making mistakes. It is actually caused by 2 of your "body clock"--a small cluster(串,组,群)of brain cells that controls the timing of biological 3 . The body clock is designed for a regular rhythm(节奏)of daylight and darkness, so that it is thrown out of balance when it experiences daylight and darkness at the "wrong" times in a new time zone. The 4 of jetlag often persist(持续) for days 5 the internal body clock slowly adjusts to the new time zone.
Now a new anti-jetlag system is available that is based on proven 6 pioneering scientific research. Dr. Martin Moore has devised a practical strategy to adjust the body clock much sooner to the new time zone 7 controlled exposure to bright light. The time zone shift(转)is easy to accomplish and eliminates(消除) 8 of the discomfort of jetlag.
A successful time z0ne shift depends on knowing the exact times to either 9 or avoid bright light. Exposure to light at the wrong time can actually make jetlag worse. The proper schedule 10 light exposure depends a great deal on 11 travel plans.
Data on a specific flight itinerary(旅行路线)and the individual's sleep 12 are used to produce a Trip Guide with 13 on exactly when to be exposed to bright light.
When the Trip Guide calls 14 bright light you should spend time outdoors if possible. If it is dark outside, or the weather is bad, 15 you are on an aeroplane, you can use a special light device to provide the necessary light stimulus(刺激)for a range of activities such as reading, watching TV or working.
