考虑赫克索尼亚经济。

Consider the economy of Hicksonia.

a.The consumption function is given by C=200+0.75(Y-T). The investment function is I=200-25r. Government purchases and taxes are both 100. For this economy, graph the IS curve for r ranging from 0 t0 8.

b.The money demand function in Hicksonia is (M/P)d=Y-100r. The money supply M is 1,000 and the price level P is 2. For this economy, graph the LM curve for r ranging from 0 to 8.

c.Find the equilibrium interest rate r and the equilibrium level of income Y.

d.Suppose that government purchases are raised from 100 to 150. How much does the IS curve shift? What are the new equilibrium interest rate and level of income?

e.Suppose instead that the money supply is raised from 1,000 to 1,200. How much does the LM curve shift? What are the new equilibrium interest rate and level of income?

f.With the initial values for monetary and fiscal policy, suppose that the price level rises from 2 to 4. What happens? What are the new equilibrium interest rate and level of income?

g.Derive and graph an equation for the aggregate demand curve. What happens to this aggregate demand curve if fiscal or monetary policy changes, as in parts (d) and (e)?

Losing a job or not being able to find one almost always brings unwelcome changes. If you'
ve lost a job, the first feeling is often one of shock. On top of the loss of income, many people find the whole routine of their life is shattered, their contact with other people reduced, their ambitions halted and their identity as a worker removed.

There may be good feelings too -- it's nice to be able to lie in bed in the morning, to spend more time with children, or to have more time to think -- a better job may be just around the comer. But, unless a better job does turn up, chances are the days start getting longer and the time becomes harder to fill. Many people pass through periods of difficulty in sleeping and eating. They feel irritable and depressed, often isolated and lonely.

Despite all these problems, unemployment can be a chance for a fresh start. You can discover that it provides an opportunity to sort out or rethink what you want from life and how best you can get it. You can use the time to plan how to find a new job, learn a new skill, develop your hobbies, see if you can run your own business, do some voluntary work in your community or meet new people. It's up to you.

Unemployment almost always brings changes that are ______.

A.unpleasant

B.unsuitable

C.untenable

D.unworthy

Passage One

The phrase almost completes itself: midlife crisis. It&39;s the stage in the middle of the journey when people feel youth vanishing, their prospects narrowing and death approaching.

There’s only one problem with the cliche (套话).It isn&39;t true.

“In fact, there is almost no hard evidence for midlife crisis other than a few small pilot studies conducted decades ago,” Barbara Hagerty writes in her new book, Life Reimagined. The vast bulk of the research shows that there may be a pause, or a shifting of gears in the 40s or 50s, but this shift “can be exciting, rather than terrifying”.

Barbara Hagerty looks at some of the features of people who turn midlife into a rebirth. They break routines, because “autopilot is death”. They choose purpose over happiness一having a clear sense of purpose even reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. They give priority to relationships, as careers often recede(逐渐淡化).

Life Reimagined paints a picture of middle age that is far from gloomy. Midlife seems like the second big phase of decision-making. Your identity has been formed; you’ve built up your resources; and now you have the chance to take the big risks precisely because your foundation is already secure.

Karl Barth described midlife precisely this way. At middle age, he wrote, “the sowing is behind; now is the time to reap. The run has been taken; now is the time to leap. Preparation has been made; now is the time for the venture of the work itself.”

The middle-aged person, Barth continued, can see death in the distance, but moves with a “measured haste” to get big new things done while there is still time.

What Barth wrote decades ago is even truer today. People are healthy and energetic longer. We have presidential candidates running for their first term in office at age 68, 69 and 74.A longer lifespan is changing the narrative structure of life itself What could have been considered the beginning of a descent is now a potential turning point—the turning point you are most equipped to take full advantage of.

What does the author think of the phrase “midlife crisis”?

A.It has led to a lot of debate

B.It is widely acknowledged

C.It is no longer fashionable

D.It misrepresents real life

How does Barbara Hagerty view midlife?

A.It may be the beginning of a crisis

B.It can be a new phase of one&39;s life

C.It can be terrifying for the unprepared

D.It may see old-age diseases approaching

According to Karl Barth, midlife is the time_______.

A.to relax

B.to mature

C.to harvest

D.to reflect

How is midlife pictured in the book Life Reimagined?

A.It can be quite rose

B.It can be burdensome

C.It undergoes radical transformation

D.It makes for the best part of one&39;s life

What does the author say about midlife today?

A.It is more meaningful than other stages of life

B.It is likely to change the narrative of one&39;s life

C.It is more important to those with a longer lifespan

D.It is likely to be a critical turning point in one&39;s life

At the International Snow Sculpture Championships in Colorado on January 27, people will c
arve the white stuff into art. Planning begins months before the first snow falls. Teams submit applications and sketches of their sculptures in July. Then, a panel of judges chooses 14 teams for the championship.

The rules are simple: Electric tools are not allowed. Teams carve snow with everything but the results are not entirely in the sculptors' hands. "If it is extremely sunny and warm", DeWall, the competition's director of public relations, explained, "we will erect old sail from sail boats into the air to block the sun from melting the sculptures". If it snows, she continued, teams have to work extra hard to scrape(刮掉) the new snow off their work.

The judges look for creativity, technical skill, and overall impact on the viewer. The winner does not receive any money. "There is no cash prize because the event began with the concept of global camaraderie(情谊)", DeWall explained. Instead of focusing on money, she continued, "winners revel(纵情) in the friendship, the art, and the hard work".

What does the phrase "white stuff" in the first paragraph refer to?

A.Wood.

B.Snow.

C.Ice.

D.Rock.

How often does one hear children wishing they were grown up, and old people wishing they w
ere young again? Each age has its pleasures and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting his time in useless regrets.

Childhood is a time when there are few responsibilities to make life difficult. If a child has good parents, he is fed, looked after and loved, whatever he may do. It is impossible that he will ever again in his life be given so much without having to do anything in return. In addition, life is always presenting new things to the child—things that have lost their interest for older people because they are too well-known. But a child has his pains; he is not so free to do what he wishes to do; he is continually being told not to do things, or being punished for what he has done wrong.

When the young man starts to earn his own living, he can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes, and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used to as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the laws of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go to prison. If however, he works hard, keeps out of trouble and has good health, he can have the great happiness of building up for himself his own position in society.

According to Paragraph 2, the writer thinks that

A.life for a child is comparatively easy

B.a child is always loved whatever he does

C.if much is given to a child, he must do something in return

D.only children are interested in life

In the United States many have been told that anyone can become rich and successful if he works hard and has some good luck.

Yet, when one becomes rich, he wants people to know it. And even if he does not become very rich, he wants people to think that he is. That is what “keeping up with the Joneses” is about. It is the story of someone who tries to look as rich and as successful as his neighbors.

The expression was first used in 1913 by a young American by the name of Arthur Momand. He told this story about himself: he began earning $125 a week at the age of 23. That was a lot of money in those days. Young Momand was very proud of his riches. He got married and moved with his wife to a very wealthy neighborhood outside New York City. But just moving there was not enough. When he saw that rich people rode horses, Momand went horse riding every day. When he saw that rich people had servants, Momand and his wife also hired a servant and gave big parties for their new neighbors.

It was like a race, but one could never finish this race because one was always trying to keep up. Momand and his wife could not do that.

The race ended for them when they could no longer pay for their new way of life. They left their wealthy neighborhood and moved back to an apartment in New York City.

Momand looked around him and noticed that many people do things just to keep up with their neighbors. He saw the funny side of it and started to write a series of short stories. He called it “keeping up with the Joneses”, because “Jones” is a very common name in the United States. “Keeping up with the Joneses” came to mean keeping up with the people around you. Momand’s series appeared in different newspapers across the country for over 28 years.

Every city has an area where people want to live because others will think better of them if they do. And there are “Joneses” in every city of the world. But one must get tired of trying to keep up with the Joneses, because no matter what one does, Mr. Jones always seems to be ahead.
