Many visitors finds the fast pace at which American people move very troubling. One's first impression is likely to be that everyone is in a rush. City people always appear to be hurrying to get where they are going and are very impatient if they are delayed even for a short moment.
At first, this may seem unfriendly to you. People will push past you as they walk along the street. You will miss smiles, brief conversations with people as you shop or dine away from home. Do not think that because Americans are in such a hurry they are unfriendly. Often, life is much slower outside the big cities, as is true in other countries as well.
Americans who live in cities often think that everyone is equally in a hurry to get things done; just as city people do in Tokyo, Singapore or Paris, for example. But When they discover that you are a stranger, most Americans become quite kindly and will take great care to help you. If you need help and say, "I am a stranger here. Can you help me?' Most people will stop, smile at you, and help you find you way or answer your questions. Occasionally, you may find someone too busy or perhaps too rushed to give you help. If this happens, do not be discouraged (气馁); just ask someone else. Most Americans enjoy helping a stranger.
Many people who first visit the United States will find that().
A.America is a highly developed country
B.Americans are impatient and unfriendly people
C.the fast pace in American life often causes much trouble
D.American city people seem to be always in a rush
Larry found a job parking cars for one of Hollywood's big restaurants. His pay was basic, but since the guests were kind enough to give him more money, he managed to make a living.
One day he recognized an important film director driving into the parking lot and getting out of his car. Larry had recently heard that the man was ready to make a new picture.
Larry got into the car and prepared to drive it on into the lot and park it. Then he stopped, jumped out, and ran over to the director. "Excuse me, sir, but I think it's only fair to tell you that it's now or never if you want me in your next picture. A lot of big companies are after me."
Instead of pushing away the boy, the director got interested in Larry's words and stopped. "Yes? Which companies?" he asked.
"Well," replied the boy, "there's the telephone company, the gas company, and the electric company, to tell you only a few."
The director laughed, then wrote something on a card and handed it to the young man. "Come and see me tomorrow."

1. Help your child communicate. Naturally outgoing kids have an easier time expressing their interest in other children than shy ones do. But you can help build this skill through practice. Ask your child about his favorite games and toys. Praise him for specifics when he shows interest in other people: "You were so nice to let Roger talk about his little dog. I am proud of you."
2. Keep play short and sweet. Parents should keep early play dates short, so no one gets too fired and everyone has fun. Schedule the next one soon after that, so kids can quickly build on their comfort foundation.
3. Know your child. If your child is bossy, talk with him and agree before hand on which toys will be shared and which ones should be put away because your child just can't seem to share them. If you have a shy child, match him with a younger child so he has a chance to be the leader.
4. Help your child help others. Encourage your child to be a better friend by helping him include others in play. If you see someone being excluded, don't ignore it. This is an opportunity to work on your child's ability to understand others. "Rachel is being left out. That must make her feel very sad. Can you think or a way to include her in the game?"
5. Help your kids help themselves. If your child is the one who's being ignored or treated badly, teach him to speak up.
Which word can best describe a child who is good at connecting?
A.Bossy.
B.Confident.
C.Proud
D.Showy.

Passage FourNews has just been received of an air crash in the north of England. The plane , which was on a charter flight from London to Carlisle, was carrying a party of businessmen on their way to a trade fair. It seems likely that the plane ran into a heavy fog as it was approaching Carlisle and was obliged to circle for some twenty minutes. Everything seemed to be going well. The pilot was in constant radio communication with Ground Control when the engines suddenly cut out and all contact was lost. The plane crashed on the site of the ancient Roman camp at Hadrian’s Hill , a place well known to archaeologists(考古学家)and tourists.
So far few details have been reported, but it is feared that at least twenty people lost their lives, among them the pilot, who was killed instantly, The local ambulances and firemen were on the scene within minutes of the crash , but additional help had to be rushed from other areas.
Mr. Lesilie Collins, one of the survivors, told our reporter, “We passengers noticed the engines were making a funny noise. Of course we couldn’t see anything because of the fog, but the pilot said there was nothing to worry about. The next thing we know, the engines went dead. There was a rushing noise-and after that I don’t remember any more.”
Mr. Collins is now in hospital, being treated minor injuries. We will be bringing you further news of crash as we receive it . In the meantime relatives are asked to ring 02-3457211 for information.
