Mrs. Luth Li was a Chinese woman living in Singapore. She named her baby girl Patsy Li. Th
is name in Chinese means "white plum blossom". When Patsy Li was six years old, the Japanese attacked Singapore. Mrs. Li and Patsy Li escaped on a ship which was sunk. Mrs. Li placed Patsy Li on a bit of floating wreckage. Later Mrs. Li was saved, but the little girl could not be found.

Many months after, four thousand miles away, a group of United States Marines found a little Chinese girl. No one could tell how she had got there. She refused to talk or give her name. The captain who spoke Chinese named her Patsy Lee because he thought she looked like a white plum blossom.

When the New York Times told about the finding of "Patsy Lee", Mrs. Li's sister saw the news and wrote to her sister about it. Could Patsy Lee be the lost child Patsy Li? The mother made the long voyage to find out. The little "white plum blossom" was indeed her own Pasty Li.

According to the story, what does "Patsy Li" mean?

A.White apple blossom.

B.White peach blossom.

C.White pear blossom.

D.White plum blossom.

完成下列各选项阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文的内容从每小题的四个选项中选出最佳的一项,并把它前
面的大写字母填在横线上。 A I grew up knowing I was different, and I hated it.When I started school my classmates made it clear to me how I must look to others:a little girl with an ugly lip.And l was deaf in one ear.I was sure that no one outside my family could love me.Then I entered Mrs.Leonard’s second—grade class. Mrs.Leonard was round and pretty, with shining brown hair and dark smiling eyes.Everyone loved her.But no one came to love her more than I did.And for a special reason. The time came for the annual(每年的)heating test given at our sch001.The“whisper test”required each child to go to the classroom door, turn sideways, close one ear with a finger, while the teacher whispered something from the desk, which the child repeated. Then the same for the other ear. The teacher usually whispered things like“ The sky is blue.” or “ Do you have new shoes?” Mv time came I turned my bad ear toward her, blocking the other just enough to be able to hear.1 waited.and then came the words that God had surely put into her mouth, seven words that changed my life forever. Mrs.Leonard, the teacher I loved, said softly,“I wish you were my little girl.” Mrs.Leonard, the teacher,________.

A.loved the little girl more than anybody else

B.loved the little girl while her parents didn’t

C.was loved by the little girl only

D.was loved by all the children in her class

根据以下内容回答下列各题, One of the greatest problems for those settlers in Nebraska in t
he last quarter of the previous century was fuel. Little of the state was forested when the first settlers arrived and it is probable that by 1880, only about one-third of the originally forested area remained, down to a mere 1 percent of the states 77,000 square miles. With wood and coal out of the question, and with fuel needed year-round for cooking, and during the harsh winter months for heating, some solution had to be foun d. Somewhat improbably, the buffalo provided the answer. Buffalo chips (干粪块) were found to burn evenly, hotly, and cleanly, with little smoke and interestingly, no odor, Soon, collecting them became a way of life for the settlers children who would pick them up on their way to and from school, or take part in competitions designed to counteract their natural reluctance. Even a young man, seeking to impress the girl he wanted to marry, would arrive with a large bag of chips rather than with a box of candy or a bunch of flowers. What is the main topic of this passage?

A.The solution to the Nebraska settlers fuel problem.

B.Life in Nebraska in the late ninteenth century.

C.The imporance of the American buffalo.

D.Deforestation in Nebraska in the late nineteenth century.
