Finally, he compared brain activity from both【B11】______and what he found will surprise you. Using【B12】______is called "pattern analysis" , its possible to【B13】______a unique pattern of brain activity to every individual thing we do. The stronger our memory, the【B17】______the pattern, but as Johnson found, even at a moment【B18】______we cannot remember anything, our nerve cells still fire in a way that【B19】______the activity of when we formed the memory. Color is very important to most animals for it helps them to get along in the world. Color
【B1】to make an animal difficult for its enemies to see. Many animals match their【B2】so well that as long as they do not move no one is【B3】to see them. You probably have often "jumped" a rabbit. If you【B4】, you know how the rabbit sits perfectly still【B5】you are just a few feet away. You【B6】see the rabbit till it runs for its【B7】matches very closely the place where it is【B8】Many times you may have walked past a rabbit【B9】didn't run and you never knew it was there at all.

One of the most usual color schemes that helps animals to keep【B10】being seen, is a dark back and light underpants, if an animal is the same color all over, there is always a dark shadow along the animal's belly(腹部). Even if an enemy couldn't see the animal he could see this dark shadow.

There was a time when, if a lady got onto a crowded bus or train, a gentleman would immedi
ately stand up and offer her his seat. Today a gentleman will probably look out of the window or hide behind his newspaper. Either way, the lady will have to stand until someone gets off.

You can' t entirely blame men for this change in manners. The days are gone when women could be treated as the weaker sex. A whole generation of women has grown up demanding equality with men; not just equality in jobs or education, but in social attitudes. Hold a door open for some women and you're likely to get an angry lecture on treating women as inferiors, unable to open doors for themselves. Take a girl out for a meal and she'll probably insist on paying her share of the bill.

It' s no wonder, then, that men have given up some of the gestures of politeness and consideration which they used to show towards women. On the other hand, man' s politeness is perhaps slowly being replaced by true consideration for the needs and feelings of women, so that men can see women as equal human beings.

What do gentlemen now do when a lady gets on a crowded bus or train?

A.They will stand up reluctantly.

B.They will offer her their seats after a while.

C.They will pretend not to see her.

D.They will get off the bus.

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange or red? If you do, you must be an
optimist (乐观者), a leader, an active person. Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. If you love green, you are strong-minded and determined. At least this is what psychologists (心理学家) tell us. They have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference (爱好), and the effect that colors have on human beings. They tell us that we don't choose our favorite color as we grow up. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one. On the other hand, black is depressing. Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or dark gray.

Remember that you will know your friends and your enemies better when you find out what colors they like and dislike. And don't forget that anyone can guess a lot about your character when you choose a piece of handkerchief.

According to this passage,______.

A.one can choose his color preference

B.one is born with his color preference

C.one's color preference is changeable

D.one has to choose his favorite color as soon as he can see clearly

e my dormitory deposit for next year. Have you made yours yet?

W: No, I'm not sure I'm going to.

M: There's not much time left. The deadline's May 1. That is just two weeks from now. Are you short of cash.

W: No, I'm Okay.

M: You'd better hurry up if you want a dorm room next September. There aren't enough rooms for every one, and first-year students have priority.

W: Well, I've been thinking about living off campus.

M: Have you any idea how much that would cost? There is the rent, utilities, and you'd probably need a car.

W: I know it would be more expensive. I think I can handle it though. The dorm is just so noisy that I can't get anything done. Maybe my grades would be better if I had some peace and quiet in a place of my own.

M: You should study in the library the way I do. Think of the money you'd save.

W: I've got to think it over some more. There's still two weeks left in April.

(23)

A.When to move.

B.Where to live the following year.

C.How much time to spend at home.

D.Whose house to visit.
